Patriot Resources is rapidly transforming its Zambian exploration success from a single copper discovery into a larger corridor-scale opportunity, extending the prospective strike of its Tonic discovery to 5.5 kilometres while identifying two additional high-priority drill targets along the prospective Mumbwa-Kitumba copper belt.
Recent ground magnetic and induced polarisation (IP) surveys have significantly expanded the exploration area southeast of the Tonic prospect. The surveys outlined two priority targets, known as Block 1 and Block 2, within a 163-hectare geophysical footprint, suggesting the presence of a structurally controlled mineralised system rather than a standalone deposit.
Patriot Resources Managing Director Dominic Duggan said the latest exploration results demonstrate the company’s strategy of building a sizeable copper project around its initial discovery.
“Our expanded geophysics programme beyond the Tonic footprint has identified two additional targets within the Mumbwa-Kitumba corridor. This allows us to develop a pipeline of copper opportunities alongside our original discovery in one of Zambia’s most prospective and rapidly developing copper regions,” Duggan said.
Block 2, located approximately three kilometres southeast of Tonic, is centred on a syenite intrusion and is characterised by coinciding magnetic structures and strong chargeability anomalies. These features indicate the potential presence of sulphide-rich shear zones that may host copper-silver mineralisation.
A further 2.5 kilometres along strike, Block 1 exhibits a more complex geological environment, combining intrusive rocks with sedimentary formations that display hydrothermal alteration, an important indicator of mineralising fluid activity.
The geological characteristics identified across the exploration area are consistent with iron-oxide copper-gold (IOCG) systems, strengthening the prospectivity of the broader Mumbwa-Kitumba corridor. The region is already home to Sinomine Resource Group’s Kitumba copper deposit and is increasingly recognised as one of Zambia’s emerging IOCG provinces.
Earlier drilling at the Tonic prospect intersected shallow copper-silver-zinc-cobalt mineralisation, providing encouraging evidence that the mineral system extends across the corridor. With many of the identified geophysical anomalies yet to be drill tested, Patriot is preparing follow-up reverse circulation and diamond drilling programmes to further evaluate the targets.
The project’s proximity to existing infrastructure, including the nearby Kitumba development, further enhances its development potential. As exploration progresses, Patriot Resources is positioning itself to define a scalable copper project within one of Zambia’s fastest-growing mineral exploration districts.
